Using raw foods to connect to your inner self

The Perfect Salad – Easy as 1, 2, 3…

Salads may be simple but they are anything but boring. Here are the three steps to create a perfect salad:

1. Delicious Green Leaves

Use greens as the base of your salad, there are loads to choose from, why not try some that you haven’t eaten before, here are some suggestions:

Varieties of Salad Leaf

Varieties of Salad Leaf

  • Baby Leaf Spinach
  • Cabbage – Red and White
  • Chard
  • Cos
  • Frisee
  • Kale
  • Lambs Lettuce
  • Little Gem
  • Radicchio
  • Rocket/Arugula
  • Sweet Romaine
  • Watercress

2. Something to get your teeth into

Depending on what you fancy, choose a selection of fruit or vegetables to add to your leaf, I find that up to 3 ingredients work best. Some of my favourite are:

  • Avocado and celery
  • Grated carrot and raisins
  • Chunky cut peppers
  • Tomato and sweetcorn
  • Beetroot and orange
  • Apple and celery
  • Tomato, cucumber and onion
  • Mushroom, onion and pepper
  • Grated courgette and carrot

3. A Topping

Finish your salad with a flavour to complement the rest of your dish and can include:

  • Sprouts
  • Seeds
  • Chopped walnuts
  • An oil based dressing
  • Vinegars
  • Nut cheese

Helps to know
There are so many combinations of flavours and textures to get your senses going you will never again think of a salad as just being iceberg, tomato and cucumber… Add to this that each time you cut a vegetable in a different style it will add a different texture to your dish. Just think of the difference between juicy grated carrots and crunchy chopped carrots.

Happy experimenting!
